This portrait of Heather and me has quite a story behind it...

This year's burn is over, and I've posted the photography to accompany the night sky diagrams. I took this shot from the Temple of Stars, facing towards the city in the distance:
Eventually I'll finish adding the words but if you need your burn photo fix, it's here.

Only a little time left till the burn. Enjoy the visual story of the night sky.

Couple minor changes: Added my gecko to the art portfolio, and the mental area is much improved and updated.

Wow, I am lucky to have such good friends. A bunch of them came over to help Heather and me move to my new pad, and a couple of them took a few pictures. How cool is that?
Thanks to Smokeblower, Indy, Pandora, Kingsley, Lucky and Saratonin for all the help. I really appreciate it!

Just got back from my trip to the Bay Area. And there is new photography...
While there, Heather's dance troupe performed at Rakkasah just three days ago. They were a big hit.
I've also made major updates to the The Long Now Photography Project. More detail, more photography, and broken into three separate (shorter) pages.

Last night while drumming I learned how to do a kind of improvisational music performance technique known as "call and response." That inspired me to enhance the dumbek pages. I've added several new variations for chifti and ayyoub, then added bolero, one of my favorite rhythms.

Discovered something interesting this morning. Try searching on Google using an arbitrary two-keyword search (say blue armadillo). Then try searching for the same keywords but in reverse order (armadillo blue). The terms don't produce the same results! That's strange, since Google doesn't seem to care particularly which order the terms appear in the results returned by either query. In fact it doesn't even require that the two keywords be next to each other at all.
Odd. But it's just another instance of the poor semantics of Google. A better example: try searching for Netherlands and Holland. These synonyms produce very different results.

One prize from 2003: 100% uptime and beyond. Not too bad for a plucky little Linux box plugged into the wall. Nice way to start the new year.
Continue back to 2003...
